Environment-Friendly Ways to Celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi
The environment around us is degrading with
every passing day. While we cannot completely stop with the celebrations so as
to hold on to our heritage, we can still alter our ways of celebration and make
it more environment friendly. Here’s how you can do so:
Eco-friendly Idol: River pollution has been increasing at an
alarming rate putting all of the aquatic life at stake. An eco-friendly Ganesh idol is made of soil and disintegrates once immersed in water without
disturbing aquatic fauna.
Celebrate Together: Organize a Puja together with the people
around your house instead of worshipping individually. This will not only
encourage a spirit of togetherness but also reduce overall noise pollution, air
pollution, and water pollution that go hand in hand with the celebrations.
Artificial
Immersion Tank:
Arrange for an artificial immersion tank in your neighborhood so that all
families living in one neighborhood could immerse their idols in one place
instead of polluting the river water. Later on, you can even use the same water
to water your plants to prevent excessive water wastage.
Natural Colors: Use natural and easily available colors such
as rice powder, turmeric, pigments from flower petals, and the like. These
colors are environment friendly and would also not harm your skin. Even if they
come in contact with the flora and fauna, they wouldn’t pose a threat to them.
The easy above-mentioned things would help you
celebrate while still maintaining equilibrium in the environment. Remember, you
are celebrating for a happy occasion and would not want to destroy the
environment while doing so. Be sound and have an eco-friendly celebration.
