Let the earth be our first choice

Just a few days left, then the country will get dazzled by the celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi. Devotees will rejoice in the name of Lord Ganesha, the God of prosperity, wisdom, the destroyer of all the negativity. The grandeur of this Hindu festival is marked by the installation of majestic idols of Vinayaka at home or on beautifully decorated pandals, offering prayers with flowers and prasadam, chanting mantras with whole day fasting, cultural programs, and so on. In the states of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharastra, people also get indulged in competitions with respect to bringing up impressive and larger idols, decorating the pandals with a creative theme, arrangements, etc. Unfortunately to maintain this fervor of status and competition we are making our environment highly polluted.

A bigger idol of Lord Ganesha undoubtedly adds a special height to the celebration but this easily mold lightweight, and beautifully decorated POP (Plaster Of Paris)-made idol draws a bad impact on nature. The POP-made idols don’t get dissolved into water, moreover, its cadmium, mercury mixed synthetic colors cause tremendous water pollution causing harm to the aquatic organism. That’s why this year let the earth be our first choice – instead of worshipping non-biodegradable idols let us celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with clay (i.e. earth)-made idols. Clay Ganesha for Ganesha Chaturthi would reflect a traditional grandeur to our celebration. It is completely biodegradable and therefore does not harm our environment. Maybe Clay-made idols are heavy, but it is believed idols made of clay possess more devotional essence than others. Therefore an eco-friendly Ganesh Chaturthi is necessary for attaining blessings from Lord Ganesha and our mother nature as well.
